Jay Tyler, owner and chef of The Lovin’ Cup, grew up in Massachusetts, outside of Boston. While on a hike in New Hampshire he came across The Appalachian Mountain Club. He asked for a job and was hired. There he learned to make soup from scratch. Taking from his New England roots, Jay came up with his clam chowder recipe that quickly became a favorite. After traveling and working abroad in Australia, New Zealand and then a summer job in Idaho, he moved to Ogden Utah. Here he raises his daughter, plays in a hobby band and enjoys all the outdoor activates.

Since his first job in food service at age 15, feeding people has become his life’s work. Jay has worked in every possible position in the restaurant industry working his way up through hard work and dedication. In 2017, Jay opened his own catering company First Class Catering fulfilling a lifelong dream of being a business owner. Jay’s side project The Lovin’ Cup came from a successful run selling soup at the Ogden Farmers Market.

When asked why he is so passionate about cooking he replied, "I cook because I love to share food. I believe sharing food is one of the best ways to show someone you love them."
